Anchor AI Product Demonstrations with Personas

"Don't explain. Show."

Every product demonstration should have this as its core objective.

How do you anchor that?

With personas.

There is a principle from product development that should form the foundation of every product demonstration, but is very frequently missing: User Stories.

In product development, we frame requirements around a person:

As a [user], I want to [do something], so that [outcome].

That structure forces technology to be connected to human use.

  • Who is using it?

  • What are they trying to achieve?

  • Why does it matter to them?

  • What does success look like?

Product demonstrations should be framed the same way.

But, too many demonstrations still just attempt to explain their product:

  • “Here is a dashboard.”

  • “Here is a workflow.”

  • “Here is an AI action.”

  • “Here is what happens when you click this.”

That’s not showing. That’s just touring.

The strongest demonstrations are focused on showing a user experience and the outcomes that a product provides to that user:

As a [user], I need to [do something], so that [outcome] is achieved.

“This is Monique. She leads customer service for a national organization.”

“Every morning she needs to understand where service demand is increasing, which cases are at risk of breaching commitments, where customers are becoming frustrated and where her teams need support.”

“Here is how [product name] helps her do that.”

The difference may sound subtle, but it reframes the entire demonstration.

The product is no longer the story. The person using the product is the story.

The technology becomes the mechanism through which that person achieves an outcome.

If User Stories are important enough to help us design and build technology around people, they should also be important enough to shape how we demonstrate that technology to prospective customers.

A good product demonstration should answer more than "What can the product do?"

It should show who will use it, how they will use it, and what becomes better for them because of using it.

That is the foundation of a persona-led demonstration.
